Art Basel 2025

16 - 22 Jun 2025

For Art Basel 2025, A Gentil Carioca (Booth R17) proposes a sensitive look at dance, understood not only as an artistic expression, but as a central element in collective experiences, social rituals and forms of resistance over the centuries. Dance appears here as a multifaceted symbol: a language of the body, a tool for transmitting knowledge, a way of telling stories and preserving traditions. The selected works dialog with these multiple dimensions, highlighting the importance of dance in the construction of cultural identities, in the delicacy of human relationships and in the constant search for belonging. Participating in this edition: Agrade Camíz, Ana Silva, Arjan Martins, Denilson Baniwa, João Modé, Kelton Campos Fausto, Laura Lima, Misheck Masamvu, Miguel Afa, Novíssimo Edgar, O Bastardo, OPAVIVARÁ!, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Renata Lucas, Rodrigo Torres, Rose Afefé, Sallisa Rosa, Vinicius Gerheim, Vivian Caccuri, Mariana Rocha, Rafael Baron.

We are also presenting a Kabinett that proposes an unprecedented dialog between the works of João Modé, Ivan Serpa and Max Bill. A pioneer of concretism, Bill had a decisive influence on Latin American art and, in 1951, was awarded the sculpture prize at the first São Paulo Biennial, impacting generations of young artists. In resonance with this legacy, Modé has been developing the series 'Construtivo [Paninho]' since 2013, in which he uses sewing and embroidery to pay homage to the geometric-abstract tradition of Brazilian art, creating “constructive-affective” forms. In the space, Modé's new works dialogue with emblematic pieces by Serpa and Bill.
