From his plastic paintings to performances, collaborations and reconfigured found objects, Jarbas' direct physical interaction with his diverse materials in multiple contexts explores the intrinsic relationship between instinct and reason, the body and the mind, the individual and/in society.

Biography

Brazilian artist, lives and works in Maricá, Rio de Janeiro. Jarbas Lopes moves ideas, reframes objects, idealizes magic and expands, based on his works, the concept of possible utopias. His creative process permeates a reconfiguration of objects and aesthetic experiences, giving them a new meaning and movement, always permeated by a critical tone. His sculptures and interactive paintings make a balanced fusion between time, space and practical and ideological circumstances such as collective participation, sociability for public spaces and shared uses of the city. The artist uses this power to work and stretch plasticity to maximum tensions, his work “Cicloviaérea” is a conceptual plan in which the artist works the imaginary and creates a means of transport that dispenses with fuel and uses a bicycle to connect two points through an inclined plane, a sculptural-architectural symbol mixed with the continuity of what is around it, the landscape. In addition to this symbiosis of weights, volumes and conceptual balances, Jarbas creates environments that bring key stories to expand the edges of art, his installations with everyday materials such as cars, bicycles, paints, rubber bands, election campaign banners and advertising banners shows intersect the reification of images. Fantasizing, manufacturing and remaking the handicraft is, in Jarbas, a conceptual basis that unfolds in many dimensions. His work carries a puerile force and invites irruptions.
