Parede Gentil 39 [Gentil Wall 39] | Yhuri Cruz
On September 9, 2023, A Gentil Carioca inaugurated in Rio de Janeiro, its thirty-ninth Gentil Wall, created by Yhuri Cruz: “Monument to the Voice of Anastácia”.
Yhuri Cruz, works from underground memories, his works are designed to keep alive a recent past that left marks and traces, especially in the black population. These are archives and historical documents that give life to sculptures, writings, objects and performative propositions.

We see that an oppressor made your life a martyrdom, tyrannically violated your youth, we also see in your soft countenance, in your gentle peaceful face, a peace that suffering was unable to break.
This means that your struggle made you superior, you conquered your voice, so much that God took you to the plains of Heaven and gave you the power to perform cures, graces and a thousand miracles to those who fight for dignity.
Anastácia, you are free, we ask you... pray for us, protect us, wrap us in your mantle of graces and with your kind, firm and penetrating gaze, keep away from us the evils and curses of the world.

Parede Gentil [Gentil Wall] | Previous editions
Since 2005, A Gentil Carioca has received several guests to create special works on the gallery external wall, located in the Historic Center of Rio de Janeiro, which remain on view for approximately four months. Among artists, collectives and curators, Parede Gentil [Gentil Wall] has already received names such as Anna Bella Geiger, Paulo Bruscky, Marcos Chaves, Lenora de Barros, Neville D'Almeida, Guga Ferraz, Carla Zaccagnini, Nico Vascellari, Gabi Gusmão, Maria Nepomuceno, Arjan Martins, OPAVIVARÁ!, Carlos Garaicoa, and many others. For each edition, the gallery also invites a collector to support and grant the project, in order to transform a collection of works of art into something public. A good collection of art legitimizes its time and allows a greater number of people to have access to the work.
