  • ENCRUZILHADA GENTIL

    A Gentil Carioca is pleased to present “Encruzilhada Gentil” (the crossroad in downtown Rio de Janeiro where the two buildings of the gallery overlook). In addition to being one of the gallery's physical spaces, occupied by various activities such as exhibitions, performances and musical shows, “Encruzilhada” is also the place where political manifestations, rituals, carnival songs, cars and people traffic, casual meetings take place, and other activities which had to be interrupted in the current context.

     

    Moved by the desire to celebrate the art of meeting and reoccupying this space, we present works interconnected by the landscape of this crossroad. Our virtual exhibition is thought from the perspective of CROSSROADS AS PLACES OF ENCHANTMENT FOR ALL PEOPLE 1, places where action and transformation take place, directly linked to what we can call “syncope cultures” - which, in turn, are possible only when life is perceived by crossing paths.

     

    The “Encruzilhada Gentil” is, therefore, a welcoming place in difficult times, where the work of art, the artist, the pedestrian, the voyer, the entities, the flows and the landscape itself, are camouflaged in this hybrid power of being / be alive.

     

    In parallel, the 36º Gentle Wall água de beber (drinkable water) is active in our “Encruzilhada”. Combining art with the fight for rights, the project consists of an installation that provides drinkable water for people who transit through the central region of Rio de Janeiro.
