Vinicius Gerheim and Laura Lima are part of the exhibition “Eu Prefiro Ser”, currently on view at Solar dos Abacaxis in Rio de Janeiro, celebrating Ney Matogrosso’s 85th birthday. The exhibition brings together works by more than fifty artists from Brazil and Latin America around questions of freedom, metamorphosis, transgression, and reinvention.

Vinicius Gerheim presents “Corpo vestido em vasto gesto” (2026), a work that emerges from a dialogue with Ney Matogrosso’s trajectory and the artist’s ongoing investigation of the body as a language. Gerheim’s participation establishes connections between the body, gesture, and the construction of identity, bringing his practice into dialogue with the performative dimension that has marked Ney Matogrosso’s career.

Laura Lima participates with “Ninho Comunal [#18]”, part of the series “Ninhos Comunais”, developed by the artist since the 2000s. The series explores relationships between the body, space, and collectivity, creating situations that challenge the boundaries between sculpture, performance, and everyday life.

Bringing together different generations and perspectives within Brazilian and Latin American artistic production, “Eu Prefiro Ser” establishes a dialogue with Ney Matogrosso’s trajectory and with the possibilities of transforming the body, ways of existing, and forms of expression.

The exhibition remains on view at Solar dos Abacaxis through October 2026.
