In “Só um minuto?” [Just a minute?], presented at the Centro Cultural PGE-RJ, the perception of the passage of time is the central axis guiding the poetic and conceptual investigations of artists from different generations. It is within this context of temporal reflection that Maria Laet presents the work “Espera” [Wait] (2023).

The artist's practice is marked by a deep investigation of the relationships between body, time, memory, and landscape. In her research, Laet frequently brings the human body into dialogue with the matter of the earth, directing the gaze toward elements, processes, and subtle marks that often escape everyday perception.

In “Espera”, the continuous, rhythmic movement of the waves becomes the core of the visual experience. By bringing this organic dynamic into the gallery space, the artist invites the viewer into a contemplative state, establishing a suspension that directly contrasts with contemporary acceleration.

The work thus reflects on the multiple ways of perceiving and inhabiting the passage of time. By suggesting a pause, Laet's creation invites the public to a sensitive engagement with the invisible rhythms of nature and the very duration of our presence in space.
