A composição apresenta sintetizadores do antropólogo e músico australiano Matt Barlow.

[SHRINE has been commissioned and showed first at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India in 2018.

“Mosquito Shrine” investigates how the sound of the mosquito can serve as a means to transform a mosquito’s reputation from a hated animal to that of a religious entity. The mosquito was one of the catalysts for genetic change in certain human populations, it functioned as para-military armies against invaders in certain regions who would not survive the diseases that mosquitoes transmit, these insects select, reduce, and destroy cities and peoples. The installation consists of a large embroidery made on a mosquito net that depicts fictional scenes of encounters between mosquitoes and humans.

For the III Kochi-Muziris Biennial in the province of Kerala in South India, was specially built a “Mosquito Sanctuary” which include the MOSQUITO SHRINE a sound system made of concrete and a sculpture of lights that attract mosquitoes into the exhibition space. The original musical track that plays on the concrete soundsystem was also composed in Kochi, using frequencies of the female insect spectrum, implying that the sound also has the potential to attract mosquitoes to the site. The composition features synthesizers by Australian anthropologist and musician Matt Barlow.]
