A cena desacelera o tempo e transforma gestos simples em acontecimentos sensíveis: organizar roupas no varal, contemplar a paisagem, habitar o quintal.

[Miguel Afa’s work emerges from the exercise of an affectionate and deeply honest gaze toward the world and toward himself. The artist creates paintings that revisit or generate affective memories, investigating the relationships between geography, environment, body, and affection, intertwining physical and emotional dimensions within bonds and the experience of time.

Across a range of settings and elements — silent landscapes, backyards, trees, fabrics, and clotheslines — Afa develops images that seem suspended between memory and dream. Black bodies inhabit these scenes with delicacy and permanence, also asserting a political space: who is allowed tenderness? Which bodies can be seen through contemplation, care, and affection?

Small red dots traverse the canvases like fireflies — minimal presences that radiate warmth, memory, and enchantment. The scenes slow down time and transform simple gestures into sensitive events: hanging clothes on a line, contemplating the landscape, inhabiting the backyard. In his work, there is an attempt to preserve what remains alive within ordinary experiences.

Guided by a relationship of honesty with artistic practice, Afa understands painting as an open field, capable of exceeding the artist’s initial intentions. His works do not resolve into a single theme or narrative; instead, they carry multiple layers of affection, memory, and perception. Like human experience itself, these paintings remain in motion, open to unfolding and imagination.]
