ABRAM ALAS
We open our space once again to receive new ideas, concepts and experiences.
Abre Alas renews the Gentil Carioca gallery’s energy through the eyes of the various artists and collaborators - we need to be attentive to the good things! Troubled moments surround us, but the circle of sea salt, a purifier of energy, always EMBRACES us.
Abre Alas brings a new year along with it, together with new challenges, questions, expectations, meanings and struggles. Starting over is beautiful! And so was our opening: dancing, singing, drumming, fags and Galo Preto, shaken by Thaisa, performances, costumes and many light and free people who filled and occupied the crossroads of Saara.
This time we are not only talking about a new beginning, but also about a closure. A closure that is not the end, but a middle. It reflects a path that is now open and still has to be trod by us, by you and the 21 incredible artists who helped us to put together this exhibition. We are and we will stay together!!!
NO ONE LET GO OF ANYBODY’S HAND!
A huge THANK YOU to our committee: assume vivid astro focus (the artist Eli Sudbrack), OPAVIVARÁ (art collective made up of Ynaiê, Daniel Toledo, Domingos Guimaraes and Julio Callado) and Renato Silva (art director). For their time and analysis: of senses, sensibilities and emotions. Choosing is difficult. Physical space is limited and our SPACES and HEARTS welcome many, AH, IF ONLY WE COULD ACCEPT as many as we would like! There were 357 documents / portfolios and the selection process is always intense. To those who did not enter this edition, we ask you to keep going! The gallery spills out of its space, let’s keep occupying the streets and crossroads. Come together, participate, art is made with / by affection and experience.
15 years of Abre Alas, under the sun, rain, storms and earthquakes, nothing stops light, nothing stops art, nothing stops life. Culture, ART and education ARE THE STRENGTH OF THIS WEAK NEARLY HAIRLESS BIPED ANIMAL covered with clothing that we call PEOPLE, in fact, clothing is CULTURE, thanks to all who appeared with their incredible costumes!!!
We suggest that the ministry above all ministries of any government on earth should be the MINISTRY OF CULTURE, because culture is everything that is human, SPEAKING, counting, thinking, working, creating, buying, selling, playing football, COOKING, smiling, dancing, flirting, all this is culture. Those who are against culture are against themselves, for HUMANITY is a “cultural being”, art is our audacity, inventiveness, CULTURE is LIFE.
We still think that Abre Alas is a Trance, an ALERT, a state of suspension, radiography and mapping of what is vibrating today in our CITY COUNTRY WORLD, art vibrates, Abre Alas vibrates, we do not make it alone, we are not alone, Abre Alas is collectivity, will without fear, abre alas faces front on with love, tenderness, affection, what appears, without prejudice to this multicultural plurality and biodiversity that we are. Live with the diverse languages of this plural exhibition, educate yourself and educate this world by learning and teaching. Art is insistence, the affirmation of life.
We must be alert and strong. 2019 is starting.
