“Jinwar ou Terra das mulheres” é uma pintura que aborda a história de uma organização de mulheres sírias que lutam pela defesa de seus territórios contra a ofensiva do Estado Islâmico. Em um pequeno vilarejo do Curdistão, essas jovens, organizadas em uma milicia, viabilizam o enfrentamento e a luta direta, retratada por Marcela Cantuária nesta tela como um ato de apoio e sororidade. A artista traz sua pesquisa para o radar da arte e da resistência e reflete sobre a importância de reproduzir a imagem das guerrilheiras curdas como um ato de inserção na história. A partir de um remendo de referências a pintura apresenta as guerrilheiras e um sol sobre a face de uma de sua líderes, o “novo amanhecer” é uma citação constante na obra de Cantuária, que propõe um exercício de imaginação e associação com a revolução feminista. A artista trabalha com diversas camadas de cores vivas em sobreposições, além de utilizar uma espécie de filtro para retirar a aridez pertencente ao território em questão e suas ruínas desérticas ampliadas pela guerra. Os retratos ganham um efeito de negativo, inversão de tom que traz uma contra narrativa e uma ativação da memória através do olhar.

“Jinwar ou Terra das mulheres” (Jinwar or Land of women) is a painting that addresses the history of an organization of syrian women fighting for the defense of their territories against the Islamic State offensive. In a small Kurdish village, these young women, organized in a militia, make possible the confrontation and the direct fight, portrayed by Marcela Cantuária as an act of support and sorority. The artist brings her research to the radar of art and resistance and reflects on the importance of reproducing the image of Kurdish women guerrillas as an insertion in history. From a patch of references, the painting presents the guerrillas and a sun on the face of one of their leaders, the “new dawn” is a constant quote in Cantuária’s work, which proposes an exercise of imagination and association with the feminist revolution. The artist works with several layers of bright colors, in addition to a kind of filter to remove the aridity belonging to the territory in question and its desert ruins enlarged by the war. The portraits gain a negative effect, an inversion of tone that brings a counter narrative and an activation of memory through the gaze.
