Considerado um amuleto poderoso, os Patuás, são usados em várias religiões por serem conhecidos como símbolos sagrado para proteção. Os ornamentos criados por Laura Lima, compõe-se de tecituras de fios crus entrelaçadas em metal e pedras preciosas (ouro, ônix, turmalina), alimentos, pena, grafite, entre outros elementos e utensílios, inclusive secretos, valiosos e ou ordinários, que em momentos de dificuldades ou incertezas, a pessoa que possuí-lo poderá acessar. Para a artista são uma referência ao santo do pau oco.
Patuás, assim como outros trabalhos de Laura Lima, costuram um conceito desenvolvido por ela, que é a filosofia ornamental. No século XX, e por causa do pensamento de escassez das guerras e na presença da arte conceitual, muitas vezes houve um detour que concentrou as linhas numa forma mais simples (o minimalismo, por exemplo). Em contraponto, os ornamentos, a possibilidade de lascívia, da luxúria ou mesmo a ideia de poder e seu viés político, são reflexões presentes na obra da artista.
Considered a powerful amulet, the Patuás are used in several religions because they are known as sacred symbols for protection. The ornaments created by Laura Lima, are composed of weaves of raw threads intercrossed in metal and precious stones (gold, onyx, tourmaline), food, feather, graphite, among other elements and utensils, including secret, valuable and ordinary, that in times of difficulty or uncertainty, the person who owns it will be able to access it. For the artist they are a reference to the hollow-bodied wood-carved saint.
Patuás, as well as other works by Laura Lima, sew a concept developed by her, which is the ornamental philosophy. In the 20th century, and because of the scarcity of wars and the presence of conceptual art, there was often a detour that concentrated the lines in a simpler form (minimalism, for example). In contrast, the ornaments, the possibility of lust, luxury or even the idea of power and its political ways, are reflections present in the artist's work.
