Em “A Brave New World / Yawira”, Baniwa explora as mitologias da criação do homem e dos seres indígenas nas Américas, histórias em que as relações sexuais entre animais e gente, gente e animais ocorria livremente, levando à formação do ser humano como ele é hoje. O trabalho evidencia a noção do pecado que foi atribuída a estas práticas sexuais e à liberdade sexual das populações indígenas por parte da Igreja Católica, que tentou apagar estas mitologias. Yawira, a arraia, é tanto alimento quanto arma de caça – englobando em si a própria noção da antropofagia.
In “A Brave New World / Yawira”, Baniwa explores the creation mythologies of man and indigenous beings in the Americas, stories in which sexual relations between animals and people, people and animals, occurred freely, leading to the formation of human beings as they are today. The work highlights the notion of sin that was attributed to these sexual practices and the sexual freedom of indigenous populations by the Catholic Church, Institution that attempted to erase these mythologies. Yawira, the stingray, is both food and a hunting weapon – encompassing in itself the very notion of anthropophagy.
