Based on the book by Pierre Gripari that tells the story of Nuno, an introspective boy who lives in an imaginary European suburb, a book I received in the fifth grade from my history teacher, my second and last black teacher in school. I developed this painting to show a bit of Brazilian and Rio de Janeiro´s suburbs and my experience changing places with the true protagonist of the story. Nuno didn't attend school because he served in the army, he was underestimated by everyone for being the poorest guy in the neighborhood. But deep down, the most precious thing he had was a knowledge that can only be obtained through his experience and relationships.
